How to Wear Winter Whites

How to Wear White White

As temperatures drop and snow shows up in our forecast, we bundle up in our coziest duds and usually resort to wearing all black. But what does this mean for brides-to-be? A white wardrobe is reserved for the bride-to-be for all the events surrounding her wedding, and no matter the season, we think she should exercise that right!

Here’s how to flawlessly wear white in the winter months...

HUE

The most important part of wearing winter whites is the hue. Stay away from crisp whites (think white computer paper) and opt for pearly, ivory and creamy hues, often referred to as “winter whites”. Not only are these more seasonally appropriate colors, they are a softer contrast against pale skin.

PRO TIP: It can be really difficult to discern between “white” and “off-white” when shopping online, so do some research. If the color name is “optic white” or “resort white”, chances are it’s too white for the colder months. Stick with names like, egg shell, bone or porcelain.

FABRICATION

Fabrication is another detail to watch when wearing winter whites. Steer clear of summer favorites like cotton, linen, seersucker, eyelet and anything described as “lightweight.” Instead, go with rich, warm fabrics like cashmere, velvet, wool, silk and satin. Lace is a bridal favorite and is typically safe year-round. Just stay away from cotton embroidery and eyelet that are often disguised as lace.

SILHOUETTE

Make sure your look is seasonally appropriate by staying away from summer silhouettes like, halter tops, low backs, spaghetti straps or anything that shows too much skin. Even if you’re planning on being inside, play it safe and make sure your dress offers enough coverage.
